Young people get help |
Fr. Moses Asaah started 1998 already to support young people in their education with collected donations. The recently established foundation, “Stiftung Regentropfen”, focuses exclusively on supporting young people in their school education or in their professional/vocational training. The basic philosophy behind this idea is that every human being has a specific God-given talent, which can sometimes not be developed because of lack of resources or mentorship.
Sometimes it may be a matter of only a small amount needed; or sometimes a larger financial support required to make a decisive step. Other times “only” advice and counseling are enough help. Many young people in Ghana cannot enjoy good education or learn a good trade/profession without the help of others. That is why the foundation, Stiftung Regentropfen, first of all gives guidance to these young people to find the most suitable future profession of their choice. They then get financial support for school, exams fees and apprenticeship, for educational material etc.
The foundation’s volunteers in Ghana also provide periodical counseling to the beneficiaries, monitor their educational progress and give report on this to the director of the foundation.
After a successfully completion of their academic study or apprenticeship, the young people will be encouraged to support the foundation and its projects, each according to his or her abilities. As a sign of gratitude for all the support these youngsters have received from the foundation, all the beneficiaries so far show interest in the project of the foundation.
The aim of the foundation is to provide individual support to needy children and youth in Ghana. It is envisaged that the foundation goes into partnership with vocational and educational institutions, in order to guarantee a continued and sustainable training of the beneficiaries.
For further information, please contact the founder of the foundation. He – like all other persons engaged in the project – works voluntarily. This ensures that every "Raindrop" (you donate) arrives in Ghana, where it is needed and for what you may determine it - as an Endowment fund or as a direct donation, so that a child can advance through education, later stand on his own feet as an adult and cater for himself and his family.
The cost per child from basic school till the entry in Senior High School ranges between 150 € and 320 € per child/year, depending on whether it is a public or private school. In the Senior High School the costs (of educational material and fees – excluding boarding fees) vary between 350 € and 500 € per child/year. If a fosterling studies at a technical college or university 700 € to 1,200 € are necessary.
Currently the Regentropfen Education Foundation supports beneficiaries from various towns in Ghana: from Ashaiman, Kasoa, Legon/Accra, Nsawam, Koforidua, Afraim Plains, Tamale, Welembelle, Bolgatanga, Zebilla, Bazoa, Bongo, Namoo and Kongo. The Foundation has gone into partnership with St. Mary’s Vocational and technical Institute/Afraim Plains, St. Augustine Basic and Junior High Schools/Ashaiman and Awogeya Junior High School/Bolgatanga. Needy pupils and students in these schools are supported according to their individual needs. The beneficiaries mentioned cannot have an uninterrupted academic term without external support and that implies that they can have a successful completion of their courses.
On a whole the foundation sponsors the education of over 100 beneficiaries in Kindergartens, in Basic, Junior and Senior High Schools, Teacher Training Colleges, Vocational Training institutes, Nursing Colleges, Polytechnics and Universities. Less than one quarter of them have German benefactors and benefactresses. It is the principle of the Foundation that family members and relatives of the beneficiaries should participate in the payment of fees and educational training of the young people. In cases where local contribution is not possible, such as by orphans and children from socially underprivileged families, the Regentropfen Education Foundation takes over the complete responsibility. A special component in the Basic, Junior and Senior High schools is the provision of school uniforms for the affected youth and children. The importance of school uniform is not to be underrated, since it serves to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor in and has an integrative potential. Lack of school uniform implies sadness and demotivation for a child.
Over and above what has already been stated, the foundation also presently supports 35 needy pupils and students sporadically, as and when the need arises. The parents of most of these children are single and cannot pay the extras that add the normal school life. Through this method we have been able to support five young people to complete or take up various courses.
Many other requests for support from needy families, students as well as from educational institutions are continuously brought to the director of the foundation, who together with the volunteers review and act upon them accordingly. Your donation is of great importance for the realization of their dreams. Kindly click here for bank details to make a donation.
